Where to surf in Hossegor?
Hossegor is among the most renowned spots in France and Europe, and especially the most varied.
La Sud, aptly named, is perfect for beginners or even for progressing away from the locals with beautiful summer waves rolling onto the beach. You will also find numerous surf schools there.
La Nord is definitely one of the best surf spots in Hossegor and certainly one of the most well-known on the Landes coast. The waves breaking offshore can reach up to 6 meters, making it one of the most renowned beach breaks in the world! However, be cautious, La Nord is not recommended for beginner surfers.
La Gravière, along with La Nord, is one of the spots that has brought Hossegor worldwide fame! If the seaside town is considered “the best beach break” in France, it’s notably thanks to the round and powerful waves breaking in shore break at La Gravière. Depending on the sandbanks, they can reach heights of 3 or 4 meters. Again, a spot to avoid when you’re a beginner.
The “Les Culs Nus” spot is located north of Hossegor beach at the border with the Seignosse beaches. Its name comes from the naturist beach of Les Culs Nus. Despite hosting surf competitions, the spot remains less known than La Nord and La Gravière. However, you will find impressive waves there, up to 5 meters in winter, and just as beautiful as at La Gravière in shore break.
