STAND UP PADDLE RENTAL BY HOMIE BOARDS
Today we’re looking at Stand Up Paddle. Surfing’s little cousin, it has everything you need for a great day out on the water.
Who is it for?
There’s something for everyone here, and it’s just as much for fans of snow sports as it is for lovers of superb rides. Easy for beginners, fun and friendly, the paddle can be used to ride some superb waves (watch out for surfers who don’t like sharing their spots), or for a leisurely stroll in the open sea, or a little fitness session on the water.
WHAT’S A STAND-UP PADDLE FOR?
- A tour: the most accessible discipline, it’s also the most popular format for enjoying the magnificent French coastline from the ocean while pushing yourself to the limit. The paddle is then quite large, and inflatable ones are now available to make them easier to transport.
- Surfing: no need to lie down and paddle, with the paddle you only need 3 strokes to catch the wave. Small, easy-to-handle paddles are preferable.
- Racing: certainly the most physical discipline, these paddle races on very long, streamlined boards are becoming increasingly popular and some can be seen on the French coast, such as at La Torche in Brittany.
- Fishing: why not after all?
HOW TO GET STARTED
There are no secrets, you just have to practise. Of course you can put yourself in the best possible position. Start out on a board that’s easy for your size (generally large and wide for greater stability). The aim of the first few outings is not to achieve a balancing act, but to learn the basics: standing up, rowing correctly and with good posture, turning around, kneeling.
Now all you have to do is find the right spot (as flat as possible) and get started!
